OHO is categorized as one of the most interesting, complex and important examples of avant-garde art and counterculture of the 1960s in ex-Yugoslavia and beyond, in Central and Eastern Europe. The OHO documentary, with its rich archival material, aims to comprehensively capture the phenomenon of the OHO movement and group for the first time. Damjan Kozole (1964) is an acclaimed Slovenian filmmaker whose directing credits include Spare Parts (2003), nominated for the Golden Bear at the 53rd Berlin IFF, globally released Slovenian Girl (2009), premiered at the Toronto IFF and Nightlife (2016), winner of Best Director Award at the 51st Karlovy Vary IFF. Kozole is also a respected author of many documentary films, including Pero (2023), which premiered at the Rotterdam IFF, Ulay: Project Cancer (2013), and Borders (2016).
The creativity and subversiveness of OHO remain inspiring even today, more than half a century later. The film presents the key episodes of this avant-garde artistic and cultural phenomenon while also exploring what OHO’s ideas can offer us in the present day.
